Graduate degrees include a M.S. in Geology and Geological Engineering, a M.S.

We are a strong
field-oriented department that utilizes the unique geological setting of the
Black Hills and Badlands. Study in the various degree programs often involves detailed research and
investigations in and around the Black Hills region, although research is not
limited to the local area. .

The Badlands (left) and the Black Hills (right) are both popular locations for field study during courses and often are sites of graduate student and faculty research.
Faculty to student ratio is high providing hands-on instruction by our experienced staff, which is an advantage in studying at SDSM&T. As an undergraduate student, every opportunity will be provided to become involved in some aspect of faculty and graduate student research. Many opportunities also exist to become involved in summer field programs. What you do, ultimately, is up to how much you want to become involved!
Scholarship opportunities are available for incoming first year and continuing students alike. For more information on scholarships/assistantships available on campus, click here. For information on Geol & GeoE scholarships, inquire here.
