Geology & Geological Engineering M.S.

MS in Geology and Geological Engineering

The MS degree requires 32 credits, including 24-26 course credits and a minimum of 6 research credits.  The non-thesis option requires 36 credits and is reserved for students with extensive work experience in geology or geological engineering.  All students must elect either a Geology Specialization or a Geological Engineering Specialization.

Geology Specialization

Background Requirements
Students with missing background requirements will develop a deficiency plan with their advisor to meet the deficiencies prior to graduation through a combination of undergraduate course work and/or independent study.

• Two semesters each of Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry
• Physical Geology
• Mineralogy
• Stratigraphy and Sedimentation
• Petrology
• Structural Geology
• Field Geology

Degree Requirements
Core Courses:
GEOL 604 Advanced Field Geology
GEOL 633 Sedimentation

One course from:
